When I watched his talk at TED a few years ago, what reached me first was the man’s smile. He had a disarming smile. And then I came across his stories. Several-grandmothers-worth of stories and then, that smile! He was Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik. And well, the grandmothers inside him did burst out one day as he went on to write books specifically aimed at children; a series called 'Fun in Devlok' for the children.

The lack of good fantasy fiction popping from the Indian land urged Mr. Anurag Bhatt to foray into the challenging domain of fantasy story-telling. Krishna and the Lake of Souls is a debut novel of Anurag Bhatt, belonging to the world of fantasy fiction. Though the attempt should be appreciated but those words of appreciation are enervated as the writing misses the mark by quite a margin.

Few people coming together under a shed and then stories spilling out, endlessly. That is The Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam. An incomplete description, anyway. So don't runaway.

At the end of the story, there is written June 2003-August 2007– more than four years of writing, that is.

Comparison is futile. Comparison is, however, inevitable.

‘Life of Pi’ is originally a novel written by the Spanish author, Yann Martel. It is almost a fable having an Indian boy at its helm. His family decides to relocate to Canada for a better future for them when emergency is imposed in India but unfortunately their ship wrecks during the voyage. His father owned a zoo in Pondicherry and expected a better market in America for his animals and so, were travelling in a cargo ship along with the animals.

He wrote for more years than what we live. And, all he did during those years was to write recipes that would twist your intestines more, induce pain in your jaws and would grant you at least a year more to live. And hence, die in a more convenient age! Take a bow, Sir Pelham ‘rummy’ Grenville ‘extremely funny’ Wodehouse.
