E-readers are still very English-dominated. It will be a while before my Dad can read his favorite Hindi magazine on a Kindle and my Mother can read Bhisma Sahani’s play on Kindle. E-readers aren’t a home for everyone. Not yet.

I am in a flight from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad, and fortunately unfortunately the only book I have in my bag is “The President is coming” by Anuvab Pal. I vaguely remember seeing the few glimpses of the movie based on this book featuring Konkona Sen Sharma, so I am already a little biased towards the book, as my favorite actress chose to act in a movie based on it.

There is something about skimming through the pages of history, when you discover that History was once like this Chinese term “Dangxia” which means “now and here”. This is to say that history had a history and a present- like metadata, which means data about data. I have grown up reading about Gandhi’s ideas backwards, so we go back from reading about Nations’ freedom in 1947 to how his ideas helped achieving it.
