The Night It Rained Guns is a journalistic account about the Purulia Arms Drop that took place in December, 1995. A Russian Antonov-26 plane dropped three wooden boxes laden with weapons over Purulia, a town in West Bengal. The plane did not have clearance from the respective agencies and this was a glaring breach of security. Many questions sprung up and this book attempts to answer those in a neutral, third person perspective.

Mr.Nandy has done his research well, as he goes about explaining the various theories behind the real cause of the weapons drop. He has admirable and high reaching sources that have provided him with classified and confirmed information regarding the weapons drop. Yet, this book doesn’t take away your breath as it ought to. As an account of one of the major breaches in the Indian security system, the book isn’t commensurate to the speculation that the event drew.

As the mystery remained unsolved, Mr.Nandy’s grit and determination to uncover the real truth and not the skewed version that many of us remember, is to be admired. His purview of information is unparalleled and that is what makes this book a true account of the Purulia Arms Drop Conspiracy.
