The Sense of Being Indian
Article / August 15, 2013

India, it is a puzzle of a million pieces. Sometimes they fit together and sometimes they just miss each other by a slight geographic or historical tampering around the edge.  India is the vibrant  folktale locked inside every historian. It is the ballad sung in the courts of Mauryas and Guptas.  India is the very beauty of the British Architecture that adorns Kolkatta.[a] It is the anomalies of French and Portuguese culture that brews in the cafes and clubs of Pondicherry and Goa. It is the friction which exists with the Chinese on the east and Pakistanis on the west and yet it is the peace which resonates with the harmony of South Asia.  It suffers from the stereotypes of western media and yet it enjoys the respect of western authors and poets. And this India is one of the many chapters an Indian studies , thus an Indian is the sense of graduating in few of the million myths, stereotypes, epitaphs , accolades and applauses awarded to India.   When my father was growing up, mathematics was the speed and accuracy of calculations, displayed in the oral recitations of multiplicative tables [ pahadas], and when I was growing up…

I started reading this book with a sceptical mind, the seeds of doubt having been planted already. After all, Tushar Raheja, the author of "Anything for you, Ma'am" was one of the first movers of the ubiquitous young adult genre. But, he has jumped off that bandwagon to provide us with a whole new ball game (pun intended) – Romi & Gang.

Review : A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
Review / August 9, 2013

In Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods, lies the extent of wanderlust and love for nature that drives man into the deepest of woods and loneliest of trails. It is a story of weird encounters, strange mishaps, the joy of conquering peaks and completing hikes – like the Appalachian Trail (AT) the writer attempts to finish in 1996. This is indeed a travelogue, but with a story.

The Virgins by Siddharth Tripathi
Review / August 7, 2013

Set up in the spiritual capital of India, the story revolves around three central characters: Pinku, Guggi and Bhandu. The book picks up pace as Pinku and Bhandu follow Guggi with his dangerous plan and face a lot of troubles. The characters are brilliant and the narrative is amazingly simple yet elegant.

Pregnant Minds – Innovational Attitude by Virender Kapoor
Authors Exclusive / August 1, 2013

Innovation is not an occurrence – it is an attitude.

Though required by everyone, innovation becomes a life line for people who deal with technology, strategy or processes. In the last three decades most of the “maximum impact products “emerged from ICT which changed the way the world works. An innovator need not come up with E=mc2 every time. Ideas, products or processes you come up with could be simple, sometimes even insignificant, can still  be counted as innovations as long as they are different. Rather than waiting to come up with something spectacularly great once in your lifetime, your endeavor should be to raise your Innovation Quotient or InnQ   gradually by innovating all the time. To make “Innovativity” as an attitude, it is important to broaden your horizon.  Visit new locations, read books and articles on new subjects, meet new people from different age groups. That is the way to tickle your brain and give it a chance to kick up something new; original; different.
