Death Note is a manga – the Japanese genre of comic books and anime – with a potential to keep you hooked and thinking for days, or weeks even. It’s a twelve-volume series and is one of the most intense, well-thought-out, and utterly mindboggling series I have ever read.
I used to think J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye was a story one of its kind. And then came along a green monochrome paperback with a very sweet sounding name: The Perks of being a Wallflower. After recovering from the initial shock that some Stephen Chbosky has dared to copy Salinger’s magnum opus, I realized that though the plot isn’t very intense, Perks is no less than a modern classic itself.
Every year this time round, we make certain “firm” decisions that we swear we’d stick to in the coming year. Whether we do stick or not is something that usually contributes to the guilt we feel every time we hear the phrase “New Year Resolution.”
