In his latest book – Governance for Growth in India, India’s eleventh President, who also is one of the most influential idol for young Indians, utilizes his vast experience in the field of governance and politics to elucidate the various aspects of efficient governance.

Written in a layout that is easily graspable, the book is efficiently ordered and has a simple yet lucid language. The author stresses on the role of voters and the importance of voting, which many choose to ignore without realizing the power it holds. He lists of the various problems faced by India in various fields like inclusion, corruption, RTI etc. and provides easy, step by step solutions to them, leaving us wondering why such ideas never struck the minds of administrators. You are left hopeful after reading these solutions, especially the one where he suggests online voting in elections for people away from home.

One of the best things about reading Mr. Kalam’s books are they leave you with a sense of hope and determination, especially when today’s youngsters are either nonchalant or tired of the contemporary Indian governance and state of affairs. With surveys and questionnaires answered by electoral candidates, he also points out the importance of the power that is being vested in them. He also shows that as voters, it is in our hands to make the changes rather than blame others or wait for someone to make the change. This would have been an ideal pre-election read but nevertheless, a must read for all voters. Having worked with professionals of all cadres, the readers tend to trust the author’s views and we listen to him as he recollects his experiences. All his thoughts are well-organized and simple-worded for everyone to understand. The best thing about the book is where the author has asked his readers to write a page on the changes each reader wishes to see in his/her society and mail it to him. This shows the extent to which the author is willing to change India for a better future and it leaves you rather guilty for your negligence till now.

This book is a beginner’s guide to the workings of the present day Indian Governance and how this can be transformed into an efficient practice to achieve Mr. Kalam’s vision of India – 2020. It also acts as an excellent manifesto for any honest and sincere leader who wants to use the power invested in him to really change India’s future.

Love to read and have been reading since 5. Amatuer photographer and experimental cook! One of the best things in the world, according to me, is the smell of the pages in a book!
