Salman Rushdie, who had earlier lamented about everyone being offended too much too often, has offended another literary giant with his twittering ways: Jonathan Franzen. Franzen, bestselling American author of Freedom, feels that Rushdie should have "known better" than to "succumb" to Twitter and has said as much, in a collection of essays shortly to be published.
Is Rushdie pandering to modern crass commercialism? Or is Franzen an old-fashioned fogey?
